Tweak Windows 7 with Ultimate Windows Tweaker

Even though Windows 7 is a lot faster than Windows Vista, it can still be tweaked for better performance. Also, just like Tweak UI for Windows XP, there are some settings you simply wish you could change easily.
Ultimate Windows Tweaker is a free Tweak UI utility for Windows 7 and Vista. It works with both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows 7 and can be used as a portable application since it requires no install.
The program includes over 150 settings and tweaks that you can mess around with. It’s got a very slick UI and doesn’t eat up a lot of RAM.
When you first run the program, it gives you a good overview of your system including the Windows Edition, Processor, Memory, etc.
The program has 7 separate categories of tweaks, including Personalization, User Accounts & UAC, System Performance, Security Settings, Network Tweaks, Internet Explorer, and Additional Tweaks.
Personalization
On this tab, you can tweak settings for Windows Explorer, the Start Menu and the Taskbar. Want to disable those annoying little check boxes while in Explorer or want to use smaller icons on the Start Menu in Windows 7? Piece of cake!
User Accounts and UAC
One this screen, you can enable the built-in Administrator account in Windows 7, which is disabled by default. You can also customize the Welcome Screen and set a custom background for the Welcome Screen. Lastly, you can finely run the UAC settings for Windows 7 and Vista.
System Performance Tweaks
My favorite section, however, are the system performance tweaks. Here you can change the amount of time Windows waits to kill non-responding applications and other settings like unload DLLs from memory and disabling some services you may not use.
Network Tweaks
The network tweaks section is also cool because you can hide your workstation from the browser list, hide it from network neighborhood, disable remote desktop sharing and admin sharing in a domain environment, enable NTLM 2 support, and much more.
Additional Tweaks
Additional Tweaks lets you add useful features to Windows like a Take Ownership and Open Command Prompt Here option in the right-click context menu. You can also remove those pesky shortcut arrows from your desktop icons, enable encryption for your page file, and more.
Overall, Ultimate Windows Tweaker is a great program for anyone who wants to really customize their copy of Windows 7 or Vista. Enjoy!

These are great tips for tweaking Windows 7. To change the Logon screen, you can use a program called TuneUp Utilities 2010. If you don’t have the software already, just download the 30 day trial. There’s a “Customize Windows” section where you can select “Logon screen”. Choose an image, save the new screen and click “apply.” It’s pretty simple, but if you like a challenge you can also change it manually. This post has some more info—http://bit.ly/5GzfWR
